Researching the Irish line

Alas, researching my husband’s Irish line has not been very productive.  After years of exploring leads, I still have not made much progress.  Robert Green and Mary Kelly were married 16 Feb. 1836 in Ballingarry, Limerick, Ireland.  They had at least two sons, John and Patrick.  Did they follow the customary practice of naming the older son after his paternal grandfather and the second after the maternal grandfather?

The Irish Research Conference, sponsored by the Iowa Genealogical Society, which I attended today has given me some new ideas and hope!  This one is going to be a challenge.
