Genealogy data backed up

The city of Ames, Iowa is mostly isolated tonight with main roads into and out of town flooded, due to heavy rainfall.  We are dry at our house and don’t expect any problems.

It is a bit of a comfort to know my genealogy data has been backed up in various off-site locations to ensure its survival.  One way is through posting a narrative report (generated from  Rootsweb software) to Google Documents; another through an online user-submitted family tree; and another is through hard copies distributed to my siblings and other family members.

Somehow the suggestion to “back up your genealogy data” does not seem to mean putting it in reverse!  But that would be the effect if I had to reconstruct 50 years of research, a nearly impossible task!
