Esmond, South Dakota

Grain elevator in Esmond, South Dakota.

Location where Jacob Lohr, my husband’s grandfather lived in the late 1930s.

(I hope the “keep out” sign, visible on the gate, wasn’t displayed then!)

Esmond, South Dakota (population 4) is a town of a by-gone era. The only buildings remaining are the grain elevator (now abandoned) and an active United Methodist Church.

But the town has not been forgotten. Local historians have lovingly marked the location of various places of business and residences.  When we visited there in May 2010, my husband was thrilled to find the location of his grandfather’s house.
