My husband Jim and I recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. (And I used to think persons married that long were really, really old, but am now discovering that certainly is not true!)
It helps, of course, that Jim is extremely supportive of my genealogy pursuits.
However, in looking through the ancestral records, I discovered my third great-grandparents, Geerd Heits Bronlewe and Martje Thomson, were married for over 60 years. They “plighted their troths” 7 April 1814 in Mitling, Ostfriesen, Germany.
You can read a brief description of their work at:
Unfortunately, it doesn’t say if an interest in their family history was the secret to their long marriage!
