About five years ago I posted an inquiry to a list requesting information on my great-great grandfather. A wonderful volunteer had access to a needed resource and provided the requested information.
Fast forward to today when I noticed a request for an obituary on the same RootsWeb mailing list by the same person who had responded to my question. I offered to check some microfilmed newspapers for her the next time I was at the State Historical Society in Des Moines.
It was just a bit later after sending my message, she responded she had obtained a copy of the obituary– a mere 12 hours after posting her request.
That’s the beauty of genealogy researchers helping each other … and the power of the RootsWeb mailing lists and message boards. What’s not to like!
