Technically, they are a weed.  But before they go to seed, they are a sign of spring with their bright yellow buds against the backdrop of green foliage.

As a child, we used to think a dandelion that reflected yellow when held under a person’s chin indicated the person liked butter!  Ah, legends of the youth.

    I also remember that saying, growing up in Ohio. If you held the dandelion close enough under the chin, EVERONE liked butter, because a little yellow rubbed off! 🙂
