Nels A. Hanson Homestead

Photos of the homestead of Nels A. Hanson, west of Lily, South Dakota. Nels and his wife Anna Mathilda Johnson were the parents of twelve children, the youngest being my mother-in-law, Frances Hanson Lohr. Her father passed away in 1916 when Frances was just four years old and the family moved to Lily shortly thereafter.

Thanks to Beverly L., my husband’s third cousin once removed for sharing these photos which were taken in the early 1990s.

Views from the road.

Sketch of St. Ansgaar Church (active from about 1890-1932) was located in the northeast corner of Section 28, Troy Township, Day County, South Dakota.  Nels Hanson donated an acre of land for the cemetery.

These are very good photos, Mary. They certainly remind me of eastern South Dakota.
